§         Represented a U.S. oil service company in an ICC arbitration proceeding against a Nigerian defendant, resulting in a substantial recovery and the dismissal of two lawsuits in Nigeria

 

§        Advised a distributor of refined petroleum products in Florida regarding possible FCPA problems in purchasing products from Venezuela

 

§         Represented a U.S. consulting firm in litigation against a Canadian exploration company over an oil field in Ukraine, resulting in a judgment and favorable settlement

 

§        Conducting a due diligence review of a potential joint venture partner in Nigeria on behalf of a U.S. independent, including FCPA concerns

 

§        Advising a U.S. service company on doing business in Libya, including compliance with the remaining U.S. trade sanctions and U.S. Anti-Boycott laws

 

§        Represented a U.S. oil service company as plaintiff in a collection suit against several German defendants for unpaid invoices, working with local counsel in Berlin

 

§        Defended a U.S. oil service company against a claim of unfair employment practices by an employee in Australia, working with local counsel in Perth

 

§         Advised a U.S. independent in negotiating a consulting agreement with a sales agent in Nigeria  

 

§         Representing a Saudi company in connection with a proposed oil and gas project in Iraq, including due diligence on legal, regulatory and political issues 

 

§        Representing a U.S. oil service company on a project in Saudi Arabia including negotiating a joint venture agreement with the Saudi partner    

 

§         Advising a U.S. oil service company on establishing subsidiary companies in Indonesia, China, Nigeria and Russia, engaging local agents, and working with local counsel in Jakarta, Shanghai, Lagos and Moscow

 

§         Representing an oil service company in Aberdeen in connection with its U.S. operations, including corporate, tax, and employment issues

    

§        Representing the Italian subsidiary of a Colorado-based independent oil and gas company on  exploration projects in Italy, Albania  and Gabon

 

§         Representing the U.K. subsidiary of a U.S. service and supply company in a claim against the state oil company of Kazakhstan and a Kazakh joint venture

 

§        Representing an Indonesian steel company in a dispute with a Texas company over a distribution and supply arrangement

 

§        Conducting a series of training seminars for a U.S. oil service company in the U.S. and selected countries in Africa, the Middle East and the former Soviet Union on international compliance issues, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, OECD Anti-Bribery legislation, foreign trade sanctions, export controls, and anti-boycott laws  

 

§        Advised a U.S. oil service company on the legal and political issues involved in reincorporating to an offshore jurisdiction such as the Bermuda or the Cayman Islands  

 

§        Representing the creditor’s committee in a bankruptcy proceeding in California in a claim against the state oil company of Armenia

 

§         Representing a U.S. independent oil and gas company in connection with a block in the Nigeria – Sao Tome and Principe Joint Development Zone, including the negotiation of a participation agreement

 

§         Served as expert advisor to a delegation of district energy officials from the CIS and Eastern Europe on a reverse trade mission to the U.S., funded by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency

 

§         Advising a U.S. independent oil and gas company on the legal, commercial and political aspects of doing business in the Caspian region

 

§         Advising a consortium of Japanese oil companies in connection with possible exploration opportunities in Mexico

 

§        Represented a U.S. independent oil and gas company in connection with the purchase of producing properties in Tunisia owned by a Central European state oil company

 

§        Review and negotiate master service agreements with E&P companies on behalf of oil service companies

 

§         Advised the Government of Japan on current developments in the Russian oil sector, opportunities for foreign investment and prospects for exports of Russian oil to Japan

 

§        Served as outside general counsel to a Canadian company with producing properties in Ukraine, including responsibility for all corporate and legal matters, working with local counsel in Ukraine

 

§        Advising a U.S. broker of oil field equipment on U.S. laws restricting sales to purchasers in sanctioned countries such as Libya, Iran and Iraq 

 

§        Advised a U.S. independent in connection with its exploration program in four African countries, including due diligence, political risk consulting and host government negotiations

 

§        Conducted training seminars on international oil and gas contracts for government officials in Mexico, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Thailand, Gabon, Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Trinidad and Tobago

 

§        Defended a U.S. oil service company in a lawsuit in Port Harcourt, Nigeria with assistance from local counsel in Nigeria

 

§        Served as expert witness in a multi-million dollar lawsuit in federal court involving a disputed joint venture in Vietnam
